School district general contractor FCI Constructors continues to make rapid progress on the school expansion project with installation this week of steel trusses which span the width of the gymnasium. Manufactured by NuCor, each of the trusses weighs approximately 4,000 pounds and measures 71’9” in length.
Gym roof trusses were gently lifted and swung into place using a 139’-tall crane artfully wielded by Doug Griffis of FCI subcontractor Pinnacle Constructors. Once swung into place, high elevation workmen including Cisco Arias and Trevor Smalley inched the ends of the steel trusses into notches which are built into both the south and north gym walls. After the roof trusses are in place, next step is installation of state-of-the-art steel roof decking which is perforated to improve acoustical quality within the gymnasium.
