Multiple Memorial Services Planned in Coming Weeks
Astute page 3 readers of SILVER WORLD may have noticed an unusually large number of obituaries which have appeared since the start of the year.
In many of these deaths, memorial services were scheduled to coincide with summer weather in Lake City.
Following is a brief listing of upcoming memorial services which will be held starting next weekend and continuing through Labor Day:
A memorial service for Carol Jones will be held at Community Presbyterian Church, Rev. B.L. Jordan officiating, starting 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23. Mrs. Jones, age 79, died in Texas on March 31, and her obituary appeared in the April 27 SILVER WORLD.
Long-time Lake City resident Brenda Creel Wagner, age 77, died in Gunnison on October 17, 2017, and her memorial celebration is planned 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at her Secret Garden on lower Silver Street. A death notice appeared October 20 last year, with obituary to appear this month.
79-year old Lake City native Jon Theodore Vickers, son of late Jack and Jean Vickers, died in an automobile accident at Aztec, New Mexico, on December 5 last year. A memorial service for both Ted and his wife, Lonna Kay Roberts Vickers, will be held in the Vickers Plot, IOOF Cemetery, starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 1.
Obituary for Ted, for over 50 years a member of the Masonic Lodge, was printed in SILVER WORLD December 22, 2017.
Multi-generation Lake City resident Celia Mae (Rawson) Swank was 98 years old when she died in Gunnison on April 17. Her memorial service will be held starting 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Community Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ed Nettleton officiating. A reception will be held at Hinsdale County Museum following the service.

Bill Horton, 85, died in Denver on February 16 this year. Friends and family are invited to his graveside memorial service which will be held in the Heath-Liska-Horton Plot, IOOF Cemetery, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3. A reception will take place after the service at the Horton cabin in Foote & Richardson Addition across the Henson Creek bridge.

Lake City Arts’ founder Mary Stigall was 85 years old when she died at Gunnison Valley Health Care Center on March 6. Mary’s memorial celebration will be held at Moseley Arts Center and the Mary Stigall Theater in Lake City starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13.

Legendary Lake City hostess Betsy Small Cheney, age 77, died at her home overlooking Lake City on March 24.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial celebration which will be held on Water Tower Hill, south of Lake City, on Labor Day Weekend.
