LCCS Headed to State Track Meet


Lake City Community School is headed to state track this weekend, May 19, 20 and 21 at JeffCo Stadium in Lakewood, Colorado. Twelve LCCS students will participate in 19 different events: Megan Levine, who will run in the 400, 800 and 1600 meter races as well as the 4 x 800 meter relay (LCCS took the state championship in the 4 x 800 meter relay in 2016);  Miranda Hall, who will run in the 3200 meter race and the 4 x 800 meter relay; Mariah McClung who will compete in the 4 x 800 meter relay; and Jacee Lawrence who will run in the same event.
LCCS boys who will be participating are Riley Moore, who will run the 100, 200 and 4000 meter races as well as the 4 x 800 meter relay; Chris Athey, who will participate in the high jump, the triple jump and the 4 x 400 m relay; Gabe Murphy, who will run in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races as well as the 4 x 800 meter relay; Isaac Borchers, who will run the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races as well as the 4 x 800 meter relay; and Johnny Nichols, Ethan Wuest, Kolten Wonnacott and Landon Whinnery, who will all run the 4 x 400 relay and the 4 x 200 relays.
In order to qualify for the state track meet, runners need to be in the top nine in state in the 100, 200, 400, 4 x 200 relay, 4 x 400 relay and in top 10 in field events, triple jump, high jump and top 12 in the distance events –  800 m, 1600 m, 3200 m, 4 x 800 m.
