Toxic Algae

National Park Service is warning the public to avoid contact with a rare proliferation of toxic algae which has appeared in receding water near the Iola boat ramp at Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Prior to the algae bloom hazard advisory, Lake Citians in numbers were trooping down to Blue Mesa to see remnants of the old town of Iola which was inundated in the mid-1960s when the reservoir was built.
In addition to an array of building foundations and post remnants for corrals and fences, also somewhat mysteriously revealed as the water receded was this fishing rod and reel, probably indicative of the “lunker which got away.”
