Petition Wording Validated Seeking Recall of Commissioner Whinnery

Just before going to print on Thursday morning, April 25, SILVER WORLD receives confirmation from Hinsdale County Clerk & Recorder Joan Roberts that her office has approved the format of a Petition to Recall and Demand Election of a Successor.
The petition seeking removal of two-term District 3 Commissioner Stan Whinnery was filed for format review with the county clerk on Tuesday, April 23.
With format approval by the county clerk, Whinnery and proponents of the petition were formally notified via mail on Thursday.
Proponents may circulate the petition and return it to the clerk’s office within 60 days with a minimum of 145 signatures representing 25 percent of total votes cast for the commissioner’s office in the last election.
According to County Clerk Roberts, proponents of the recall indicated they intended to start circulating the petition as early as Thursday this week.
Once returned, County Clerk Roberts has 15 days to verify signatures and deem sufficiency.
Members of a committee cited on the petition as proponents of the recall are Diane L. Bruce, Hector R. Gomez, and Wathard D. Hays.
Grievances listed on the petition as reasons for recall are “misfeasance and malfeasance of his elected office” in violation of Hinsdale County policies and procedures, specifically citing failure to exercise fiscal responsibility, creating adversarial county employment environments, failure to effectively communicate with his constituency, conducting himself in an inappropriate manner to peers, subordinates and external persons, and dereliction of duty.
