Nov. 6 Chili Supper, Armory Dance Aids Nicaragua Trip

A fundraiser chili dinner and dance featuring local musicians benefitting Lake City’s annual mission trip to Managua, Nicaragua, will be held at the Armory in Lake City on Sunday evening, November 6. Funds raised during the benefit dinner and dance will defray travel costs as a 13-member mission trip, a majority of whom are from Lake City, return to the Oasis des Esperanza school , Managua The Christian school, located in one of the poorest barrios in Managua, has been an annual fall destination of Lake City church volunteers for over five years. The Sunday evening, November 6, fundraiser begins at 5p.m. with a chili and cornbread supper featuring salads and deserts, after which dancing will continue until later in the evening with music by local musicians Jeff Heaton, and Patrice Palmer and Michelle Martin of the band People Talkin’. The dinner and dance is free of charge, although donations on behalf of the upcoming Managua mission trip will be gratefully accepted. This year’s fall mission trip leaves for Managua on Sunday, November 20 and returns home Wednesday, November 30. Taking part in this year’s trip are its leader, and long-time Oasis des Esperanza advocate, Lyn Lampert, and Lake City mission volunteers Karen Hooper and daughter, Haleigh Hooper-Gray, Susan Thompson and daughters Paige and Caroline, Irene Pate, and Kolten Wonnacott, joined by Tim McKinney, Michael McKinney, and Noah Hefley, from Colorado Springs, and, from Delta, Colorado, Todd Laws, of Young Life, and Brandon Galicia.
