Community Mourns Deaths Charlie Curtis, Scott Beedy on Feb. 1

Lake City lost two residents with a distinct passion for their community and strong volunteer ethic last Friday, February 1, with the deaths of Charlie Curtis and Scott Beedy.
Curtis, 68-year old former building inspector for both Town of Lake City and Hinsdale County, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday as the result of complications from a broken pelvis after falling at his home in Lake City in mid-January.
A Colorado Springs native, Curtis moved to Lake City in 1976 and in ensuing decades worked in carpentry trades, including serving as Building & Health Inspector for both the town and county from 2006 until 2014.
He was an avid volunteer in Lake City for many years, at various times serving on the boards of Lake City Area Medical Center, Lake City Fire/Rescue, and Hinsdale County Planning Commission.
His work in the county’s building inspecting office came at the start of the ongoing Ute-Ulay Mine rejuvenation project and he oversaw construction of the Wee Care day care building starting in 2012.
Curtis was also instrumental at the start of studies leading to renovation of the historic Hinsdale County Courthouse in 2014.

Lake Fork Health Service board member Scott Beedy, 63, died unexpectedly at his home in Riverside Estates early Friday morning, February 1.
Beedy, a retired accountant from Spearman, Texas, bought the former Bob Scott house in Riverside Estates in 2013 and moved here full-time with his wife, Becky, in 2017.
He was appointed to a board seat on Lake City Area Medical Center Endowment Board in 2017 and in 2018 replaced

Becky Campbell as board member and treasurer of Lake Fork Health Service District.
Beedy is thought to have died in his home sometime after 1 a.m. on Friday. His body was discovered by his wife at 7 a.m., after which efforts to revive him by Emergency Medical Technicians were unsuccessful.
Beedy was pronounced dead at 7:19 a.m. by Dr. Gena Carr. The cause of his death was a ruled as a heart attack, the technical term for which is myocardial infarction.
Frank Vader’s Gunnison Funeral Services responded, after which the body was transported to Montrose and then taken to Spearman, Texas, where memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 5.
