The Wolves of WolfWood Return to Lake City August 11, 12

Last August, Lake City played host to the wolves of WolfWood Refuge, a wolf rescue operation based out of Ignacio, Colorado. The experience was so rewarding for both humans and wolves alike that the group is returning again this summer.
The wolves will be stationed at 720 North Gunnison Avenue at Ben Hake’s Backcountry Basecamp from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, August 11 with an informative presentation at 4:30 p.m. as well as Sunday, August 12 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. with presentations at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet new ambassador wolves face to face, during which the animals can be petted and photographed. Refuge founder and organizer Paula Watson promises “you will go home covered in all the free wolf fur you can handle.”
This year’s event is sponsored by the Town of Lake City and Backcountry Basecamp. Please note that parking is limited and visitors are asked to please not park in the business lot across the street. Visitors are advised not to bring dogs to the event.
WolfWood Refuge was founded in 1995 and provides comprehensive information and education on wolf and wolf-dog behavior and the issues surrounding them. Extensive outreach programs are given free of charge to more than 60 schools and organizations annually, with projects often focusing on at-risk youth. There are currently over 55 wolves and wolf dogs housed at WolfWood and they are one of the few wolf rescues still accepting animals. For more information visit www.wolfwoodrefuge.org.
